Collaborating with Communities

In this project artist Candy Chang engages everyday people in reimagining spaces within their communities.  She sets out to achieve this goal by complementing physical signs installed on various locations with an online presence hoping to of enrich/facilitate the civic process of carrying out these proposals. What I find intriguing about this project is its ability to craft conversations with the users. Unlike a static sign that calls out an issue in a specific location, this project encourages users to get involved in shaping their communities, making them authors of their own conversations. This methodology follows some of the points made by Khoi Vinh in the reading Conversations with the Network where he imagines a future designer that crafts experiences over narratives. In my opinion, this project is successful in its duality of existing both virtually and physically, extending the conversation into the social network and the online community. Enjoy!
